A lecture on “possible ways to avoid plagiarism” was held by Prof. Mohammad Abdollahi on January 14, 2019 at the school of pharmacy, TUMS. A brief report of can be found in below.
Plagiarism as one of the important threats to the integrity of published articles is considered and as a result, journals are very alert to the possible plagiarism in the manuscripts they receive. Plagiarism detection software such as iThenticate could be used in reducing the possibility of duplicate publication enhancing the quality of the papers.
Further, most of the editors do not accept direct copying and pasting of the content, in which the text must be reworded and accompanied by appropriate citations. However, some editors may be more tolerant of some similarity in the Materials and Methods section of an academic paper, because this section usually contains technical terms and a typical style of writing that cannot be revised drastically.
Many journal editors seem to understand the limitations of a plagiarism detection tool and use it with discretion, in consultation with the authors or peer reviewers.
