Journal Club of the Week: Cancer Immunotherapy comes of age

On Monday, February 27, 2017 journal club, current efforts in cancer immunotherapy were described by categorizing into 3 main approaches: blockade of immune checkpoints, adaptive cellular therapy, and vaccination. Blockade of immune checkpoints compromises tumor tolerance in immune response, provoking inflammatory responses against tumor that can have a detrimental impact, engendering auto-immune toxicities. These findings unraveling the notion that counterbalancing stimulatory and inhibitory signals are a major therapeutic challenge.
