Journal Club of the Week: Emerging toxicity from emerging porous nanoparticles, MOFs

On the 2nd January 2017, journal club meeting, Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and their biomedical applications along with toxicity were discussed. The potential of MOFs for continuous development and implementation of biomedical applications regarding stability, toxicology, and biocompatibility were described. Although significant progress has been made in utilizing MOFs for biomedical applications, further improvements must still occur before MOFs can become viable therapeutic options. MOFs possess unique properties desirable for delivery of drugs and gaseous therapeutics, but their uncharacterized interactions with cells raise concerns about their safety in such biomedical applications.
